‘We need to make hockey more available on TV,’ says Leah Wilkinson

Leah Wilkinson will put her ‘feet up and relax’ after reaching the end of the road in her Welsh career and after winning over 200 combined international caps.

Wikinson, 36 in December, has enjoyed a stellar last few years at the top of the game, with Tokyo Olympic bronze. She will now return to her teaching day job, as well as run out for Surbiton this season. “It’s been a long journey since 2004,” she told The Hockey Paper.

  1. TV Companies decide what sports they want on TV and most sport is placed behind a paywall. So the TV Companies decide to place those sports that will attract the most viewers first and foremost – it’s all about making money in the end. Now however Direct to Consumer is available with Watch.Hockey which can be streamed and put on the big screen. The National Associations are welcome to have a chat and figure out how to make that happen and grow hockey into the future.
