Scottish club Uddingston opens hockey scholarship programme for applications

Last season, Uddingston Hockey Club launched a scholarship programme that was aimed at supporting student and international performance players with applications now being invited for season 2022/23 programme.

To apply simply email the club at uddingstonhc@gmail.com.

Director of Hockey, Harry Dunlop, says: “As a club we support sporting excellence as part of our Performance Hockey Programme, but to partner this, Uddingston HC have now established Performance Scholarships to identify and advance the clubs most talented individual athletes and encourage our future stars.”

A key goal is also to attract and retain top athletes within Scottish Hockey and not have the need for them to play their hockey in other countries due to education, finance, employment etc, with the view that this will, over time, improve the quality of the domestic game in Scotland as we retain our top talent.

Uddingston’s scholarship programme summary

Our range of hockey scholarships are aimed at providing an unrivalled level of support covering areas such as education, finance, sports coaching and work placements. This can also include, if needed, short and long term employment with the simple aim of assisting our athletes to focus fully on their hockey.

The programme is open to Scottish performance level students or international students who are planning to study in Scotland from season 22/23 onwards from England, Ireland and Wales or international players with a key criteria being to have the ability to live and work legally in the UK.

Scholarship programme details

Uddingston men and women both play in the top Premiership leagues in Scotland and have aspirations to be pushing for European places in the near future plus via Uddy TV it is planned for all home matches to be live streamed to showcase our players, club and sport to as wide an audience as possible.

Previous and current graduates of the scholarship programme have included players within the GB Development Programme, National Programmes and visiting internationalists who have benefited in areas such as additional performance coaching, nutrition support, equipment, paid club coaching roles, part or full time employment and support with education fee’s or free education via employment routes.
