‘Pakistan look at 1980s success, not realising that hockey has totally changed’

Birmingham — Producing greatness in sports such as hockey and squash is yesteryear when it comes to Pakistan. The Khans in squash and the Pakistan hockey teams until the 1990s enriched sport and made headlines across the globe. 

That, unfortunately, is no more. Old school wing commanders and hockey Olympians have come and gone in administrative and selection roles with the regularity of Pakistan exiting early in major tournaments. 

Pakistan finished seventh in the men’s Commonwealth Games here. They will next feature in the Nations Cup in South Africa in late November, having failed to qualify for the 2023 World Cup in January.
