‘Surreal’: Birmingham hockey student Lily Walker revels in home Commonwealth Games

Lily Walker put her name into the ballot for Commonwealth Games tickets – now she is set to star for England at Birmingham 2022.

For good measure, the 20-year-old also plays for University of Birmingham and the environment will be second nature to her, all barring the pressures of a first global Games after tasting a first World Cup this month. Walker is one of six England players with Birmingham Uni status, although she is the only current student.

She said: “When the tickets came out, I was just putting my name into the ballot with my family and trying to get as many tickets for the hockey as I could. I didn’t ever dream of actually doing it.
