Guildford vets tournament urgently calls for more women’s teams

Guildford HC have a two-day masters tournament coming up on June 18-19 at their club in Godalming, Surrey and are looking to enter more women’s vet sides.

The event has been a huge success in recent years as the club serves up two days of social hockey, refreshments (including lunch) and entertainment. The Saturday event is women over-35, Sunday is over 50 years.

John Ingram-Marriott, tournament director, said: “Our June masters tournament has become a firm favourite in the calendar.

“There is a strong emphasis on people enjoying the social aspect of hockey whilst competing in hopefully glorious British weather – which makes a change from the dark days of winter.

“We are especially keen this year to attract lots of women’s sides, the women’s Masters scene is growing enormously and we hope that will be reflected in the teams attending our day. The more the merrier, all are welcome!”

Several leading clubs sides have already signed up, including Haslemere, Fleet, Warlocks (pictured here with South Berks Ladies), Guildford, South Berks, Bluebirds, Burgess Hill and as far away as Romsey and Hamble.

Jolene Burder, captain of the newly-formed Warlocks Ladies, and team manager, Nigel Dean, have built up a large squad and they are desperate for some more opposition.

Jolene has even gone as far as enlisting her pet gnome, also called Nigel, to whip up some more teams.

If anyone would like to send in a team, they should contact John IM, ingrammarriott@yahoo.co.uk or 07900171711.
