We are on the verge of several weeks of international hockey and, although different nations take vastly varied approaches to the Pro League, we can still learn a great deal about the teams.

Casting aside differing views on whether the global league we are watching is really just a set of glorified training matches for upcoming major tournaments, what is the state of the England men’s side?

In the recent Olympic cycle, Great Britain could be criticised for a lack of ambition. They were happy to be competing with the top sides in the world, rather than beating them.
