Alyson Annan: Why coaches shouldn’t overtrain their teams, fresh is better than fit

As our sport evolves, the game is becoming increasingly faster. Rule changes, technology and equipment have changed the speed of our game. Not to mention the impact that artificial surfaces are having on the game. They are getting increasingly better, which is helping our game become much faster.  

And with the speed of the game increasing, we are continually asking more of our athletes. 

Train more, train harder, train faster. We are increasing the number of times trained weekly, relying on GPS technology and heart rate monitors to oversee everything our athletes are doing. All of this to ensure that our athletes are fit enough to play the game.
