Watch Your 1s: How to enter our club hockey competition

The Hockey Paper’s Watch Your 1s competition is back for the 2021/22 season as we bid to get more clubs on board in engaging more people to watch the sport.

This year we have a top prize of £500 for the winning club, with our competition open for the first half of the season until November, a month where we will be celebrating five years in publishing.

Our aim is to gain more regional and national exposure, while our manifesto – alongside our #watchyour1s social media hashtag – calls for club members and general sports fans to watch the men’s and women’s first teams and to make hockey a vibrant, atmospheric spectacle throughout the season.

The #watchyour1s campaign is geared towards all UK clubs, from Premier Division down to regional teams, from Bowdon Hightown down to Bodmin, as well as across the UK and Ireland. Our campaign also calls for clubs to offer enticing match day excitement alongside the top sides’ action.

There will be a top prize for the best overall work achieved by clubs, which includes examples of match atmospheres, or periphery initiatives on the day and being able to highlight regional media awareness. We will pick the overall winner and also highlight three commended clubs.

HOW TO ENTER

Entry to our competition and campaign couldn’t be easier.

A club can choose a home match day (or examples of up to two weekends of action) and to draw in as many people to watch the 1s as possible.

— Our campaign calls for a boost in attendance and examples of crowd atmosphere through images and video if you can bring boisterous fan backing to the games, be it Friday Night Lights or other.

— Additionally, we require any PR/media cuttings in print or radio you can generate, as well as details of on-the-day activities and retail stalls to make the atmosphere as vibrant as possible on your chosen match day.

— Once you have compiled your entry package, collate these details, together with up to 200 words on the day and send to newsdesk@thehockeypaper.co.uk by November 22 with the subject line: watchyour1s prize.

We will choose an overall winner who will receive our inaugural prize and be crowned Watch Your 1s club champion for 2021/22.

The competition is open to all UK, British Isles and Ireland clubs.

In 2019/20, Bedford HC won our inaugural competition.

A subscription package with The Hockey Paper for your club
