Wessex Leopards and Mercia Lynx take Futures Cup Hockey under-17 titles

Saskia Lawrence, of Redmaids’ High School, kept her cool as Wessex Leopards won their second title at the Futures Cup.

Lawrence slotted home the winning shoot-out goal as Wessex Leopards beat Celtic Jaguars in the under-17 girls’ final at Oaklands College on Saturday.

Star Horlock opened the scoring in the 20th minute before tournament top scorer Ava Dempsey levelled up from a PC four minutes later.

After a succession of PCs, the deadlock still couldn’t be broken as the Leopards won 3-1 in the shoot-out.

Caledonian Cougars emerged with the bronze medal after a tense 1-0 victory over Pennine Pumas, Olivia Henderson scoring the only goal.

Top scorer: 4 – Ava Dempsey
