Cricket’s debt to hockey as English players’ stock rise with skilful hands

The rise of T20 in cricket has seen a myriad of booming shots and clever, wristy strokeplay. We also know that hockey has more than played its part as England begins to spawn a skilful production line of talent.

One wonders how many of these players have decided that hockey is not for them – we have already written about the magic hands of Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler, as well as how Ollie Pope was a useful hockey exponent – as they chase potential lucrative earnings in professional sport.

For now, we can only marvel in some of the best talent who have no doubt been helped by hockey.
