Olympics Hockey: Great Britain women strike back over Holland ‘arrogant’ claims

Great Britain women players were left miffed at the Netherlands’ insistence to comment on their European rivals after the Oranje labelled Mark Hager’s side as ‘arrogant’ and ‘lucky’ to win Rio gold.

Some Dutch stars spoke out after the world No.1 side outplayed Team GB 5-1 in the Olympic hockey semi-final before advancing to a fifth straight women’s final.

But after GB had won their third successive medal in thrilling fashion, Laura Unsworth, the first British player to win three medals, suggested that the Oranje should just let their hockey do the talking.

“It’s an interesting one because they say all these comments,” Unsworth told reporters. “I don’t know that we’re arrogant – but obviously we are in their heads.
