Olympics Hockey: ‘Tough guy’ Hendrickx set for nervy wait after painful whack

Belgium’s dangerman Alexander Hendrickx faces a wait to see if he can play in the men’s quarter-finals after the Olympic debutant took a nasty blow to the face in the entertaining 2-2 draw against GB.

With nine tournament goals (from 18 PCs before Friday’s game) to his name so far at these Tokyo Olympics, the defender was clattered by Chris Griffiths’ stick when the GB forward attempted a cross-shot in the first half – a blow which Belgium coach Shane McLeod said needed 10 stitches on his forehead.

“Our thoughts are with him. It’s never nice when you see a guy going down like that with lots of blood and so on,” said the New Zealander.
