Goalscorers in Australia’s imposing 7-1 win against India, Daniel Beale and Flynn Ogilvie have identified what gave the favourites a big edge in their second Tokyo 2020 Olympics Pool A encounter.
A pair of red swimming speedos.
“Every game (he wears them). I don’t know why. I’ve got no superstitions. I think he might have a few. I just see him in his red budgies (budgie smugglers) and know he’s ready for the game,” said goalscorer Beale.
Ogilvie said when his older brother handed him a pair years ago he just assumed they were the done thing.
“My older brother always did it when he played and my first Australian tour in juniors he gave me a pair so since then I’ve been playing in them.
“I’ve had to get some new ones. Maybe three since then. They last a while.”
Beale said the red-hot Ogilvie brought something to an already star-studded squad, aiming to become twice gold medallists.
“He brings a lot of x-factor to our team,” said the midfielder.
“He’s got speed and he’s got skill so when we see him break through like that and score one, banging it in the bottom corner, I think it just gets everyone going.”
