EuroHockey 2021: Rattled Belgium was down to England intent

THP columnist and coach Todd Williams picks out the main points from the European Hockey Championships in Amsterdam

The main headline in Belgium’s defeat to England was that the men’s world champions were rattled. Now, that’s unusual.

You look at when they went 2-0 down in that magnifcent EuroHockey semi-final of 2019, their heads were fine but against England they definitely wobbled and that showed in the amount of cards meted out to the Red Lions when it mattered.

Their form could be an influence of lockdown, preparation, all sorts of things. Or, with an average caps of over 200 each, could it be that they just need to freshen up?
