EuroHockey 2021: Chiara Tiddi, the ‘grandma’ of Italy women

A pattern is emerging at these European Championships. There are several teams, Italy women included, who haven’t played a meaningful Test match for nearly two years and the gulf is evident against the Hockey Pro League teams. 

Not that Italy are complaining; they are here with an inexperienced unit and one of the goalscorers from the Azzurre’s historic 3-0 win over China at the 2018 women’s World Cup

Leading the way is Chiara Tiddi, the 32-year-old Kampong defender who is closing in on 200 caps with only one other player racking up 50 or more internationals.
