Leading Wales at EuroHockey brings extra resonance for Lewis Prosser

There will be extra meaning and emotion when Lewis Prosser leads a resurgent Wales team on to the pitch to kick start the EuroHockey Championships against Germany on Friday.

The passing of David Prosser, Lewis’ father, in January saw an outpouring of tributes for a ‘true legend of Welsh Hockey’, who played in the first European Championships in 1970, became a Welsh caps record holder and then coached the national side to a EuroHockey placing high.

Wales’ opening double header will be a tough test, given that their matches against Scotland last week represented their first Test matches in two years. Prosser also racked up his 150th cap during the games.
