Surbiton coach satisfied after full season of hockey friendlies

Despite a league season cut well short thanks to the pandemic, the coach of English hockey’s most successful Premier Division side expressed his satisfaction at being able to accrue what he described as a full season, writes Richard Bright.

Surbiton women managed to play 18 friendly games in between the lockdowns – 12 of those since Easter. “As a coach, it’s been brilliant,” said Brett Garrard. “We could try things, have some fun which in a normal league season you can’t do with the structure of a league game every week.”
