India v Pakistan hockey series talks set

Officials hope to resume the India v Pakistan hockey rivalry with talks of a series resumption at May’s FIH Congress.

Pakistan Hockey Federation chiefs will hope to make headway with their Indian counterparts in a bid to resume matches at neutral venues. The teams haven’t met in a Test series for over a decade.

“The meeting will give us an opportunity to talk to the Indian hockey federation officials on the possibility of reviving bilateral ties that could benefit Pakistan and India and the hockey followers in both countries,” a Pakistan official told local media.

Last month we reported that Pakistan will bid to host the first FIH Nations Cup (men) when the competition format begins in 2022.

The men’s and women’s Nations Cup will comprise the eight nations in the rankings outside those who compete in the Pro League.

The new global tournament will herald the start of promotion and relegation from the FIH Pro League.
