February half-term hockey camps: Remote skills coaching with MT13

Looking to get your children hockey active in Lockdown 3.0? MT13 has launched its February half-term hockey camp offerings which will see a series of innovative courses run remotely.

At the beginning of Lockdown 3.0, MT13 finished what it believes is the most comprehensive player assessment seen in hockey, which assesses players against the four facets of being a hockey player; Technical Skill, Tactical Understanding, Physical Capability and Psychological Development.

This is a day-long assessment which gives players a full breakdown of their capabilities and a comprehensive development plan on completion.

During lockdown 3.0 MT13 – which has run hockey camps and courses since 2008 –  developed the camp offering to be delivered remotely.

“For the first time ever we are pleased to announce that our popular camps can be accessed anywhere in the world, all that’s needed is an internet enabled device (laptop, smartphone), five pairs of socks, hockey stick and a hockey ball.”

MT13 was set up in 2008 by ex-England international Matt Taylor, with the core principle of developing hockey through player development and coach education.

Matt has worked with thousands of players including many junior and senior internationals over the last 12 years and his reputation is highlighted by the fact that he’s one of a prestigious group of coaches to have coached both current GB captains; Hollie Pearne-Webb and Adam Dixon.

Engaging with the best

MT13 engages with some of the best coaching minds from around the world. In 2013 Ric Charlesworth was headline speaker at the Senior Conference, followed in recent years by Max Caldas and Adam Commons.

On the pitch coaches have included German trio Moritz Furste, Max Grambusch and Christian Fuchs as well as GB players Barry Middelton, Kate and Helen Richardson-Walsh, Crista Cullen, Nick Catlin and Alex Danson.

MT13 also provides player activities such as Project MT, 1-1 Sessions, Residential Camps, Elite Day Camps, 2-Day Camps.

Innovative coaching

Its most popular offering is the 2 Day Camps which take place at a range of locations throughout the UK. These camps are where the likes of current GB international Tom Sorsby first joined the MT13 programme.

A recent product launch has included two mentoring programmes called Project 13 and Academy 13 to deliver monthly 1-1 training sessions.

MT13 says that innovation is at the heart of its business. Over the years they have developed the 2v2 Mini Pitch, Tabletop, Skills Hurdles and Inflatable Defenders, ensuring full engagement from all participants.

The latest product is the National Skills Challenge that was developed with official partner Adidas and will be rolled out at a range of activities during 2021.

“What next… The Home! For years it’s been a dream to have an indoor home to operate from and we now have just that – an indoor astro! WATCH THIS SPACE!”
