Tributes have been paid to a teenage goalkeeper “destined for great things” who was killed in a car accident last month.
Mia Craen’s car collided with a tree in Sussex while the 18-year-old was on her way to visit her family’s new house and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mia was a multi-talented sportswoman and member of swimming, triathlon and football clubs, as well as Horsham HC.
Her brother, Finlay, said: “Mia’s special sporting passion and hobby was hockey, Mia played in goal for Horsham hockey club and was loved for her tremendous ability on the pitch and for never giving up.
“Mia was also on the Sussex hockey team and was so proud of herself to have been selected, she really was destined for great things.”
In a statement, Horsham wrote: “The club is very sorry to hear of the loss of Mia Craen who sadly died on January 30, in a tragic accident.
“Such a bright and friendly girl, nice to everyone, happy to help anyone and now missed by everyone. With much love, you will be sorely missed. All your friends at Horsham Hockey Club.”
Her love of Aston Villa FC saw captain Jack Grealish also donate £2,000 towards Mia’s funeral after a Gofundme page was set up in her name.
The fundraiser has so far raised close to £20,000.
