Millfield hosts hockey event in partnership with Help for Heroes.

This Friday, Millfield pupils will play a team from Help for Heroes made up of wounded, injured or sick serving and veteran personnel.

This is just one of a series of fundraising events Millfield is hosting to help raise funds for Help for Heroes. In June 27 pupils rowed over 257,000 in two days, and later this year the school will host ‘An Evening with a Sporting Icon’,where the charity will be presented with a cheque.

Shaun Matthews, head coach of boys hockey at Millfield said: “On behalf of the hockey and cricket departments at Millfield School, I am delighted to have Help for Heroes venturing our way this week. We look forward to creating an awareness of support for such a fantastic charity as well as fundraising for our upcoming hockey and cricket tour to India in December.”

The Help for Heroes event is the launch of a weekend of celebrations around the unveiling of Millfield Prep School’s new sports pavilion. The bespoke rugby ball shaped design with glass exterior allows views of the cricket, rugby, tennis, netball and hockey facilities.

A host of sporting greats and Old Millfieldians will return this weekend for the launch including England Hockey star, and Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Bronze medallist, Simon Mantell. He will be joined by fellow OM and former England hockey goalkeeper Nick Brothers on the Millfield Old Boys team in an exhibition match against the Millfield first team.
