Willars replaces Whiteman in Commonwealth Games squad

Beeston’s Tim Whiteman will miss out on the Commonwealth Games due to injury and will be replaced by club teammate Ollie Willars.

Whiteman broke his thumb at the World Cup, and Team England announced on Friday that it had not healed and a further operation was required early next week.

Whiteman’s housemate Willars flew up to Glasgow with the rest of England’s Hockey team on Friday.

Team England Chef de Mission Jan Paterson MBE said: “We would like to welcome Ollie Willars to the England team for his first Commonwealth Games.  Ollie has been part of the centralised training squad since April 2013, is no stranger to the team and played for the England Team at last weekend’s London Cup.  We look forward to welcoming him to the Athletes Village and England’s Lions’ Den.”
