England defeat Ireland 3-0 as World Cup preparation gets underway

England defeated Ireland 3-0 to take the NOW: Pensions Nations Cup in Reading on Thursday night.

The home side played a controlled game and dominated the possession. They came up against a determined Ireland defence with all three goals coming from corners. 

Ashley Jackson stepped around the lead runner after a mis-injection to roof a flick into the top right of David Fitzgerald’s net in the 29th minute. Two minutes later a low drag was rebounded in off the keepers’ pads by Harry Martin.

Jackson added a third after the final whistle with a textbook corner, again high and right.
