Ireland look to crowd funding

Ireland’s men’s and women’s hockey teams are trying out crowd funding to raise extra cash to support their Champions Challenge I campaigns and continued development on the road to the Rio Olympics in 2016.

The campaigns to raise €35,000 each is on Pledge Sports, an Irish crowd funding site that helped to raise €33,000 for a number of athletes across tennis, triathlon and swimming in its first month of operation.

Women’s coach Darren Smith said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to get on board with the Green Army as we push toward qualification for the Rio 2016 Olympics. Any support that you can give us through our PledgeSports campaign will allow us to spend that extra day, week or month in camp preparing to help make this dream a reality. Be part of the Green Army in their Olympic journey.”

Depending on the amount pledged, supporters can receive rewards from a thank-you to clothing or a logo on a match-day shirt.
