Leicester face long road trip

[img_assist|nid=8642|title=|desc=|link=none|align=right|width=220|height=94]Last season’s beaten finalists in the Investec Women’s Hockey League Premier Division Championship, Leicester head to Bristol on Saturday for a tough clash against an unbeaten Clifton side.

The Midlands side had to settle for a draw against Surbiton last weekend having led for much of the game until conceding a late goal, and they dropped into the bottom half of the early table as a result.

But victory at Clifton could see them get their early season back on track.

Elsewhere, leaders Canterbury head to newly-promoted Beeston who lie seventh in the table after making a good start to their campaign in the top-flight.

Beeston hammered seven goals past Sutton Coldfield in their only win so far, but Canterbury have the best defence in the league and have conceded just one goal in their opening four matches.

Free-scoring Reading have scored 17 goals so far and could go top if they beat hosts Surbiton, who similarly have also scored 17 goals.

The bottom two clubs in the early table go head to head, with Sutton Coldfield hosting Olton and West Warwickshire. And the University of Birmingham entertain Bowdon Hightown.

Already five points clear at the top of the Investec Conference East, unbeaten Holcombe face second-placed Sevenoaks on Saturday in what could be their toughest challenge yet.

With 20 goals already scored and just one conceded, Holcombe will prove formidable opponents to the Kent outfit, who could only draw with second-bottom Wimbledon last weekend.

Another team on a 100 per cent record, Investec Conference West leaders Buckingham  head to strugglers Exe in search of another win, while second-placed Slough host Bristol Firebrands.

And in the Investec Conference North leaders University of Durham host bottom of the table Boots.
