Canterbury maintain 100 per cent record

[img_assist|nid=6238|title= |desc=|link=none|align=right|width=100|height=100]Canterbury are the only team with a perfect record in the Investec Women’s Hockey League Premier Division after they edged to a 1-0 win over rivals Bowdon Hightown on Saturday.

Anna Baker’s goal three minutes from time proved to be decisive for the Kent side, whose defence has only leaked one goal in their last four matches.

Elsewhere, Surbiton moved up to second after recording a 12-1 win over strugglers Olton and West Warwickshire. Jenna Woolven led the scoring for Surbiton with a hat-trick.

Clifton are also unbeaten after a 3-2 win at University of Birmingham. Helena Faust and Laura Bridge put Clifton two goals up within 11 minutes but Ashley Caddick soon hit back for the home side.

Holly Payne equalised for Birmingham seven minutes after the break, but an Els Mansell strike eight minutes from time wrapped up the points for Clifton.

Reading secured a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Beeston with Helen Richardson scoring twice and Susie Gilbert adding the other.

Leicester picked up a 2-1 win over Sutton Coldfield with Lily Elliot and Hannah Macleod on target for the away side.

In the Investec Conference West, Samantha Sandham’s goal after five minutes put Buckingham on their way to their third win of the season as they faced Trojans.

Sandham went on to add a second after 32 minutes. Sally Gibson scored Trojans’ goal four minutes later, but Jo Ellis notched the third with five minutes left.

Wakefield have the narrowest lead at the top of the Investec Conference North, with only a greater number of goals scored putting them above University of Birmingham. Their latest triumph came as goals from Cat Horn and Gwen Smith saw them beat Loughborough Students 2-1.

Meanwhile, University of Durham won 2-1 at Whitley Bay and Tynemouth with Natasha Nichols and Laura Bevan scoring their goals.

Holcombe are top of the Investec Conference East after blasting seven goals past Ipswich on Saturday. Shelley Russell and Steph Elliott both scored twice in the victory, which leaves Holcombe as the only side in the Division with a 100 per cent record.
