Ward hit two goals to help his side survive a second half comeback from Reading.

Will Naylor also doubled up as he lifted Hampstead and Westminster to a 4-1 victory over Loughborough Students.

East Grinstead made it two wins from two games with a comprehensive 9-1 defeat of Canterbury.

It was the prolific Ashley Jackson who opened the scoring for East Grinstead, converting a penalty stroke after just three minutes. And East Grinstead raced to 5-0 lead by half time.

Jackson went on to score a second and Mark Pearn and new signing David Condon also bagged a brace.

Newly promoted Sheffield Hallam are still looking for their first win of the season after losing 3-1 to Surbiton. Again, the Sheffield side started brightly as they took an early lead through Mike Shaw.

But two goals from Alan Forsyth put Surbiton into the lead and condemned Sheffield Hallam to their second defeat in as many weeks.

In the other Premier Division game, Cannock lost out to Wimbledon 2-0.

Cardiff and Met seem to have picked up where they left off last year by winning both of their games so far in the NOW: Pensions Conference West. Luke Hawker and Rupert Shipperley got their names on the score sheet for Cardiff once again as they cruised to a 4-2 victory over University of Exeter.

In the NOW: Pensions Conference East, Southgate looked impressive as they put five past Brighton and Hove. Simeon Bird, Andrew Westbrook, Charlie Rookes, Nils Lloyd-Penny and Matt Coombes all got in on the action as they won 5-1.

There were goals galore in the NOW: Pensions Conference North with Leek top-scoring with six. West Bridgford had no answer for Leek’s firepower as they drew a blank. Ben White and Paul Nixon notched two goals each for Leek.
