[img_assist|nid=8553|title=|desc=|link=none|align=right|width=75|height=100]Germany took their eighth European hockey crown in Boom today with a comprehensive 3-1 defeat of hosts Belgium.
The home side took the lead in the 38th minute with a Tom Boon backhand strike that everyone who saw the video, bar the video umpire, thought was backstick.
That only seemed to galvanise the defending champions into action. They had already produced a superb defensive display to beat out the Red Lions surge through a high-tempo first period.
Martin Zwicker gave Germany the lead four minutes later after Mats Grambusch passed across the face of gola from the left. Ben Wess then produced a solo effort with a drive into the right side of the circle then hard smash past Vincent Vanash.
Grambusch had a hand in Germany’s third with a tricky 3D baseline dribble from the left. It’s debatable whether Oliver Korn got a touch as the ball looped into the net – but he was credited with the goal.
