England draw with Spain to set up ‘Italian Job’ quarter final

England 1 Spain 1

England drew 1-1 with Spain to line up a quarter-final match with Italy in the Investec World League semi final in London.

The hosts squandered several opportunities before finally taking the lead when lightning reflexes from Sophie Bray helped her nudge on

a high deflection home following a penalty corner.

By then the crowd had waited for 54 minutes for a goal. The equaliser came four minutes later from a stroke by Lola Riera awarded after a corner collected Alex Danson’s foot on the way to goal.

In other quarter-finals Argentina play South Africa, Australia play USA and Spain play China.
