World League London Day One

China 2 Italy 1

China took an early lead through Li Hongxia. Bu they never really asserted themselves and Italy hit back when Valentina Braconi finished off a corner.

A shock looked at list vaguely possible, but a baseline run and finish from Li sealed a rather lacklustre game.

Battle of the Americas

Argentina 1 USA 0

A 68th-minute Rosario Luchetti deflection on a corner decided this one. Minutes earlier USA captain Katie O’Donnell had a chance, close in by Maria Aladro’s left post, again from a corner, but she missed the bouncing ball.

A much better game than the China – Italy one, filled with much more industry. While a few mazy Luciana Aymar dribbles showed she can still turn it one – although she did pick up a yellow card.

Gulf in class

Australia 5 Spain 0

A well-organised Australia side walked over Spain whose only chance came when Maria Guajard Lofaro hit the post in the second half.

Aussie goals from Georgia Nanscawen, Claire Messent, Kellie White, Emily Hurtz plus one own goal in what was captain Madonna Blyth’s 250 international.
