[img_assist|nid=8179|title=|desc=|link=none|align=right|width=125|height=82]H.C. Rotterdam will go into next season’s Euro Hockey League as the top ranked team from The Netherlands after claiming the Dutch Hoofdklasse title on Sunday. The team captained by Jeroen Hertzberger claimed a 3-2 win over Oranje Zwart in the third and final play-off match, which was brought into play after both sides each claimed a win in the two previous fixtures.

Oranje Zwart drew first blood in the contest when Rob Reckers fired home in the 28th minute, before New Zealand striker Simon Child pulled Rotterdam level just after the half time break. Niek van der Schoot re-established the lead for OZ’s in the 49th minute, but Timmo Kranstauber tied the scores eight minutes from the end of the game. The decisive goal in both the match and the championship arrived in the 64th minute through Bas Campbell, who scored from open play to give Rotterdam a victory that their players will never forget.

The result earned H.C. Rotterdam their first ever national title, giving their hugely talented squad a massive boost in confidence going into next season’s Euro Hockey League. Rotterdam have always been strong performers in the EHL, having claimed one Silver and three Bronze medals in the competition to date. However, next season they will be determined that it is their name being engraved on the Alain Danet Trophy.
