Russia planning rock festival and cultural event around World league

[img_assist|nid=7542|title=FIH World League|desc=|link=none|align=right|width=100|height=100]Ahead of the upcoming men’s Hockey World League Round 2 event in Elektrostal, Moscow, newly elected Russian Hockey Federation President Pavel Cherepanov has held a press conference with news agency ITAR TASS.

“To host a competition of such a high level is considered to be a great honour for Russia,” said Mr Cherepanov. “The target of Russian National Team is to get into the next round and, thanks to Hockey World League, we can promote hockey in Russia, which is just as important.” 

In the press conference, Mr Cherepanov said that he believed that the tournament – which takes place from 27th May to 2nd June and features the national teams of Russia, Japan, Czech Republic, Austria, Egypt and Ukraine – will have a great impact on the development of hockey in Russia. The winner of the tournament will qualify for the Hockey World League Semi Finals, keeping alive hopes of qualifying for the 2014 Rabobank Hockey World Cup in The Hague (NED). 

 Cherepanov was keen to discuss the work of the “Spectator Project”, which is enabling a large number of young sportspeople from different towns and cities of the Moscow Region to attending this tournament. Coaches and hockey fans from Moscow, Ekaterinburg, Kazan, Azov and Nizhni Novgorod will be coming to watch the action at the event.

“There is a wide cultural agenda planned for this tournament, which including performances by rock bands and a lottery for the spectators,” continued Mr Cherepanov. “We are also planning a match between hockey veterans of the USSR and a ‘rest of the world’ team. I am sure that Hockey World League will have a great impact on the development of hockey in the Russian Federation.”
