Play-off places confirmed for Oranje Zwart, HC Bloemendaal and H.C. Rotterdam in the Dutch Hoofdklasse

[img_assist|nid=2014|title=Flares are still in fashion in Bloemendaal|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=192|height=200]Oranje Zwart, HC Bloemendaal and H.C. Rotterdam have sealed their places in the end of season play-offs thanks to victories in the Hoofdklasse on Sunday. The play-offs will decide both the Dutch championship and also the qualifiers for next season’s Euro Hockey League.

League leaders Oranje Zwart – who have lost just once this season – cruised to a 4-1 win over HGC to confirm their participation in the play-offs. Goof van der Kamp gave HGC an early lead before goals from Niek van der Schoot, Rob Reckers, Rashid Mehmood and Bob de Voogd ensured that all three points went to OZ.

EHL final Four hosts HC Bloemendaal continued their excellent run of form with a thumping 5-1 triumph over SCHC. Freek Martens and Chris Ciriello netted first half goals before Eby Kessing and Ronald Brouwer move the score to 4-0 after the break. SCHC’s Johannes Mooij pulled a goal back eight minutes from time, but Teun de Nooijer completed the scoring with an open play strike moments before the final whistle.

H.C. Rotterdam joined Oranje Zwart and Bloemendaal in the play-offs thanks to remarkable 7-6 victory over Schaerweijde. Goals from Timmo Kranstauber, Jeroen Hertzberger (3), Björn Kellerman, Nick Wilson and Bas Campbell helped Rotterdam establish a seemingly invincible 7-1 lead, but Schaerweijde netted five goals in the last 19 minutes to put the home club under great pressure before time eventually ran out.

The remaining play-off place will be filled by either Kampong or Amsterdam H&BC. Fourth placed Kampong – who were 3-0 winners against Voordaan at the weekend – currently sit three points ahead of EHL Final Four qualifiers Amsterdam, who kept alive their play-off hopes with a 3-2 victory away at Den Bosch. Amsterdam will need to defeat in-form Oranje Zwart on Sunday and hope that Kampong suffer defeat in their match against Laren if they are to have any chance of reaching the play-offs.
