Beeston target 17 wins in a row

[img_assist|nid=6187|title=|desc=|link=none|align=right|width=100|height=100]LONDON, October 25 – After 15 consecutive victories, Beeston go into this weekend hoping to make it 17 in a row with away games in the England men’s hockey league and cup.

The Nottingham side travel to Southgate on Saturday, before heading back north to take on Bowdon in Manchester in the men’s cup on Sunday.

“We’re doing OK,” said manager Graham Griffiths. “We’ve had 15 matches now in the League, Europe and friendlies, and we’ve won them all, scored 107 goals and conceded just 13.

“We’re entering a different phase of the season now, we’ve got a tricky weekend with matches away in London and Manchester, so we will be using the whole squad of 29 players this weekend.

“But if someone had told me we would be doing so well at this stage of the season, I would’ve shook his hand and given him 10 quid!”

Meanwhile, third-placed Cannock will be aiming to close the gap to the top two when they play at Hampstead and Westminster, while the day’s only other Premier Division match sees Loughborough Students play host to Brooklands MU.

The matches involving Reading and East Grinstead, away to Surbiton and home to Canterbury respectively, have been rescheduled due to the former pairing’s participation in the Euro Hockey League.

While conference north leaders Bowdon play host to Beeston in the cup on Sunday, they have a tough clash the previous day when they travel to third-placed University of Durham.

And second-placed Sheffield Hallam could go top if they win at Preston and Bowdon lose out.

After losing their unbeaten record last weekend, Guildford will be aiming to bounce back to winning ways in the conference west when they travel to leaders Team Bath Buccaneers on Saturday.

Meanwhile, second-placed Cardiff and UWIC go to Cheltenham.

And in the conference east in-form Old Loughtonians entertain leaders Wimbledon, while Holcombe could go top of the table if they beat Teddington on Saturday evening.
