Welsh clubs scoop up more than £32,000 in grant funding

[img_assist|nid=6288|title=|desc=|link=none|align=right|width=100|height=100]WALES, October 12 – Figures released today by Sport Wales have shown that in the past six months24 hockey clubs in Wales have been given a boost of financial support from Community Chest Awards.

These clubs have taken advantage of well over £32,000 this has enabled clubs to support a number of events and activities that have formed part of the legacy of the London 2012 Olympic Games, it has also allowed clubs to develop more coaches and volunteers to add extra sessions into their programmes to manage the demands of increased membership post games.Caroline Spanton, head of development at Hockey Wales said : “We have seen a number of clubs access community chest funding to support them to put on a variety of activities including Back2Hockey sessions, some have run club open weekends, family fun days and many have identified new coaches and hockey ambassadors to help develop their club.

“Hockey Wales have been energised by the ownership our hockey clubs have taken to ensure they maximize the legacy effects form the Olympics. There is still more funding out there for clubs to access and I would encourage all of our clubs across wales to take advantage of this.”
