Beeston turn over Dutch champions Amsterdam

[img_assist|nid=6187|title=|desc=|link=none|align=right|width=100|height=100]BARCELONA, October 13 – Beeston secured their place in the Euro Hockey League round of 16 with a 5-4 defeat of Dutch champions Amsterdam H&BC. The Bees came from 4-2 down with Martin Jones, David Ames and Mark Wadsley scoring in the last ten minutes of the match to secure top place in Pool A.

Beeston defeated Grunwald Poznan 6-0 in their round one opener on Friday.

Four other teams also secured their round two tickets on Saturday with Atlètic Terrassa (ESP), Royal Léopold THC (BEL), HC Rotterdam (NED) and Berliner HC (GER) will definitely play off at Easter’s KO16 tournament.
Berliner HC and HC Rotterdam are both through to KO16 because Grange HC suffered their second defeat in Pool C and finished last. After being smashed 13-0 by Rotterdam on Friday night, the Scottish side lost Saturday’s match 8-0 to Berliner HC.
Atlètic Terrassa and Royal Léopold THC have both qualified thanks to Terrassa’s 4-0 win over Izmailovo Moscow. Being on zero points after both pool matches, the Russian runners-up are last in Pool E meaning they are eliminated from this year’s competition.
Uhlenhorst Mülheim are top of Pool F thanks to a 4-1 victory over Russian champions Dinamo Kazan. Mülheim are not qualified yet for round two and play Club de Campo in Sunday’s crunch match. Even if Mülheim lose by two goals they will be qualified for KO16.
