Clifton take top spot in Investec women’s hockey league

[img_assist|nid=6127|title=|desc=|link=none|align=right|width=100|height=76]Clifton maintained their 100 per cent start to their Investec Women’s Hockey League Premier Division campaign with a five-goal whitewash of Olton & West Warwickshire.

Dawn Mitchell scored her first just four minutes in before Zoe Leach notched the second. In the second half, Liz Sinton and Els Mansell extended the lead before an Olton defender stopped a shot on the line with her foot in the 56th minute. Mitchell stepped up to confidently stroke home her second and Clifton’s fifth.

Canterbury continued their promising start to the season with a convincing 3-1 win against Slough. Slough started well with Amy Turnbull putting them ahead nine minutes in. But five minutes later Susannah Townsend equalised for Canterbury and goals from Mel Clewlow and Eliza Brett saw them run out worthy winners.

Reigning champions Leicester battled back to grab a point in their game against Bowdon Hightown after the prolific Tina Cullen had put the visitors ahead on ten minutes while University of Birmingham also managed to scrape a point from their game against Reading.

And Surbiton edged out Sutton Coldfield in a tight match which ended 3-2.
