[img_assist|nid=6114|title=|desc=|link=none|align=right|width=84|height=100]LOUGHBOROUGH, September 18 – Discount retailer Aldi has announced that it will be a headline sponsor for Loughborough University’s men’s hockey team during the 2012-13 season.
Loughborough University has numerous Alumni who play international hockey, with seven of the Team GB squad who competed at London 2012 having Loughborough associations, either as players or students.
The sponsorship deal represents the latest initiative undertaken by Aldi to support university and grassroots sports, with the aim of recognising sporting excellence and achievement. Aldi’s previous sponsorship campaigns have included the Christie Cup inter-university competition.
Aldi’s close working relationship with many UK universities emphasises the importance the company places on student engagement. In addition to its sport sponsorship programme, Aldi will be present at various careers fairs throughout the UK during autumn, including Loughborough University’s Graduate Fair in October.
Aldi has been able to recognise and recruit potential graduates for its prestigious Area Management programme because of its strong links with universities, and several current Area Managers graduated from Loughborough University.
Richard Holloway, head of graduate recruitment at Aldi, commented:
“Aldi has a strong culture of commitment to excellence which runs throughout the business, and we’re looking for outstanding candidates who can offer something beyond academic achievement. Strong personalities and involvement in sports teams at university are key strengths that we have identified.
“This sponsorship agreement is the latest in a number of graduate recruitment initiatives undertaken by Aldi and Loughborough University, and we’re looking forward to working with the team over the coming academic year.”
David Ralph, hockey coach at Loughborough University, commented:
“We are delighted to be partnered by Aldi UK for the coming season, to help us to continue striving towards our vision of establishing Loughborough Students Hockey as the most respected environment for integrating hockey performance, education and personal development.
“The sponsorship support will help us in our provision of leading specialist hockey coaching as well as sports medicine and sports science provision for the squad.”
