Richard Mantell and George Pinner named as GB hockey reserves for Olympic Games

The British Olympic Association has today announced the selection of Richard Mantell and George Pinner to Team GB as the two reserve athletes for the Great Britain men’s hockey team at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

As reserves, they can be called upon to replace any of the athletes named in the 16 man squad should an athlete be ruled out through injury or illness.

Reading’s Mantell, 30, was a member of Team GB at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, and scored twice in the 2009 EuroHockey Nations Championship final when England beat Germany 5-3 to win the European crown for the first time. He has made 164 international appearances since his debut in 2003.

Beeston Goalkeeper Pinner, 25, made his international debut against Australia in June 2009 at his club’s home ground, Highfields Sports Club. Since then, he has gone on to make ten international appearances. He was part of the Great Britain squad that competed at the 2011 Champions Trophy in Auckland, and will be understudy to James Fair at London 2012.
