Netherlands rule in Moenchengladbach, England take bronze

Women’s finals day of the EuroHockey Nations Championship saw the Netherlands retain their title with an assured 3-0 win over hosts Germany. And even a late soaking from a Moenchengladbach thunderstorm couldn’t dent their enthusiasm – top slide girls!

In the bronze-medal game England came from behind to defeat Spain 2-1. Two goals from Helen Richardson, the second a cracking backhand hit three minutes from time, saw England home after Spain took the lead with a Silvia Munoz corner goal after 46 minutes.

In other games Ireland retained their place in the top division with a sixth-place finish thanks to a 4-1 win over Italy. Belgium finished fifth. Azerbaijan (7th) and Italy (8th) are relegated.
