Eight top Midlands schools have backed the formation of a Midlands Schools Hockey League incorporating competition from teams right across the playing spectrum.
The scheme aims to make schools hockey more exciting and introduce a greater
element of competition between schools that play block fixtures against each other. Heads of hockey at Bedford School, Bromsgrove School, Oakham School, Oundle School,
Repton School, Rugby School, Trent College and Uppingham School have endorsed the
formation of the new league.
Two separate leagues will run – one for girls between September and December and one for
boys between January and March. Most of the school teams in each school will be
involved in the leagues, so there is a league for the U14D team boys and U15C team girls as well as at First XI and A-team levels in all year groups. This will give inter-school matches more focus for the students and turn every match into a local derby, increasing the
excitement of the hockey being played.
There will also be an overall Schools Championship both for the girls and boys, where points scored in the individual team leagues will count towards an overall total for each school competing to be the Overall Schools Champions in each term.
The administration for the leagues will be carried out on the Fixtures Live website so that
the league results and positions can be followed by anyone at anytime. To see the leagues,
go to www.fixtureslive.co.uk and search for “Midlands Schools Hockey League.”.
