Players to observe a minute’s silence ahead of international game

A minute’s silence will be observed before Sunday’s England vs Scotland U16 hockey match as a mark of respect for England youth international Emma Broad who died unexpectedly in her sleep last weekend.

England’s U16 boys and girls sides both play Scotland this bank holiday break, in games at Bellahouston, Glasgow. The girls play at 2.45pm on Sunday and 10am Monday, with the boys’ matches immediately after – 4.15pm Sunday and 12noon Monday.

As a further mark of respect to Emma, players will also wear black ribbons on their shirts. Emma was a member of Surbiton Hockey Club where she had made a number of first XI appearances.

The St George’s College, Weybridge, pupil played in the England under 16 girls team at the four nations tournament against Spain, Germany and the Netherlands in Valencia at Easter. Emma scored in the match against Germany, which England lost 3-2.
