Beeston have completed an England hockey league and cup double with a 6-2 final win over Doncaster.
The league champions led the men’s cup final by a single goal at half time – from an Andrew Monte corner in the eighth minute. Doncaster battled hard in the half but only spectacular goalkeeping from Ashley Watson and a stop on the line from Jonathan Redfern kept the Yorkshiremen in contention.
A PC goal from Ben Arnold three minutes after the break gave the Bees a brief two goal-cushion, before Joe Morrison finished a Doncaster corner two minutes later. But the premier league side then pushed home the advantage against their northern conference opponents. Chris Gregg added an open play goal (46m) and Ben Arnold a PC deflection in the 57th to make it 4-1.
Cheered on by a raucous crowd, Doncaster hit back with Redfern finishing a corner with 11 minutes to go. Two late finishes from the Bees – Martin Jones set up by Matt Taylor (64m) and a last-minute goal credited to David Ames finished the scoring.
