Crunch time in England Hockey League season

The England Hockey League season enters its crucial phase this weekend as top premiership clubs start playoffs to decide the national champions.

The top five teams in the premier divisions qualify for these end-of-season playoffs. The format is 4 vs 5 – winner to play 1the next day for a place in the final; 2 vs 3 for a place in the final. The league winners (East Grinstaed men and Leicester women) are guaranteed a European place for next season, but the other Euro places, and all-important European seedings are up for grabs.

Sunday April 3, 2011
(men) Beeston (2) vs Surbiton (3) 14.00
(men) East Grinstead (1) vs winner of Reading vs Bowdon 14.00
(women) Canterbury (2) vs Reading (3) time TBC
(women) Leicester (1) vs winner of Bowdon Hightown vs Slough 12.30
