Drag flicker Sohail Abbas and striker Rehan Butt have helped Pakistan end a 20-year Asian Games hockey drought with a 2-0 victory over Malaysia in the final today.
Abbas netted a 26th-minute penalty corner while Butt scored a 38th minute open play goal.
This was Pakistan’s first major title since the 1994 World Cup and their last Asian Games gold came in Beijing in 1990.
Abbas said he had no intention of retiring and if he stayed fit he would be in London in two years time.
India won bronze, defeating South Korea 1-0 with a Tushar Khandker open play goal in the 39th minute.
