England skipper Middleton to join East Grinstead for indoor season

England and Great Britain captain Barry Middleton is set to join East Grinstead hockey club’s men’s indoor team for the defence of their national indoor premier league and championship titles. Middleton who formerly played alongside Grinstead’s Ashley Jackson at HGC in Holland, now plays in Germany for Club an der Alster. Middleton has returned to the UK for the 2010/2011 winter break where he will rejoin Jackson and his EG team mates for what he hopes will be a successful indoor campaign for the club.

East Grinstead HC have won the national indoor premier league title for the past four years and the national indoor championship title for the last two. They added the European indoor club champions trophy to their trophy cabinet in Vienna last February. As a result, the West Sussex-based club will be representing England in the elite European Indoor Club Champions Cup next February in Lucerne, Switzerland.
The indoor squad starts its preparations this Thursday at East Grinstead Sports Club, although the full outdoor squad still has two EHL national premier league matches to play before the indoor league season starts in just under three weeks time at UWE, Bristol.
