Rebecca, a teacher at Fitzalan High School in Cardiff, has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Young Coach/Leader of the Year category of the Sport Wales and UK awards.
She is head coach of UWIC hockey’s second team and assistant coach at Whitchurch Saints whuile also taking on duties as assistant coach at the Welsh Hockey Union Regional Academy and assistant coach at the Cardiff Performance Development Centre.
But Daniels’ hockey CV doesn’t end there. She has been secretary for the World Hockey Youth Panel since 2009 and is on a working group tasked with establishing a GB Youth Panel that will be a voice for young volunteers in hockey.
“I arrange my life around hockey,” she told Wales Online.
“I started playing in secondary school and really enjoyed it. Then when I went to college it carried on.
“One day I was in the changing room and the hockey development officer came up to me and said she thought I had real potential to develop as a coach because I could read the game so well.
“From there I was put on the Activator scheme and things have just snowballed,” added Daniels, originally from Burry Port
“I love coaching and seeing players enjoying and achieving success.
“The hockey development officer who helped me is my role model, and I hope I can be the same for the young people I work with.
“I was nominated to represent Wales in Canada and made a presentation there about youth hockey.
“I came runner-up out of about 30 people and I was asked if I’d join the World youth panel. It’s a fantastic experience.”
