Canterbury in top spot as Leicester falter

Women’s England Hockey League, October 16, 2010
Slough 3 Cannock 2
Reading 3 Brooklands Poynton 0
Leicester 1 Olton & West Warwicks 1
Bowdon Hightown 1 Canterbury 3
University of Birmingham 1 Clifton 1

It is ‘all change’ again at the top of the women’s national league with Canterbury now holding top place. The Kent club put away north-westerners Bowdon Hightown on one of the longer road trips in the league 3-2.
Meanwhile Olton and West Warwicks visited last week’s table-toppers Leicester and came away with a draw. The Beckie Herbert one woman show wasn’t enough to stop a rejuvenated Olton side claiming a well deserved point. Indeed, with all of last season’s absentees getting back to match fitness, Olton could have quite easily walked away with all three points. Herbert opened the scoring, glancing home from an advancing Gemma Brookes. This lead was short lived as Lisa Hunter put Lucilla Parkes through to shoot past Maddie Hinch for the equaliser.
