PUSH columnist Katie Ardrey(right) had the trip of a lifetime on Monday as she and her University of North Carolina team-mates were honoured at the White House by President Barack Obama.
This was the second visit in three years for the NCAA championship-winning college hockey team – The UNC field hockey program also traveled to the White House to celebrate its 2007 title.
“A lot of the girls had the opportunity to go after the 2007 championship, and this was just as much of a thrill,” UNC coach Karen Shelton said. “It was different, but with the new administration it was very exciting for our student-athletes. We didn’t expect to be as close as we were, and the President shook just about everybody’s hand. It was a great honor to be there.
“It was a great day for our program and recognition of the 2009 national championship.”
Katie, an England junior and Teddington club player, will be telling us more about the trip in the next issue of PUSH – so if you aren’t a subscriber you know what you have to do!.
