Finals day preview

In a country named after dreams of silver, England’s golden dreams have turned to bronze. And after the heartbreak of Thursdays semi-final penalty strokes loss to the Netherlands, the English girls now face a determined German side in the bronze medal match.
Germany haven’t set the tournament alight like the free-scoring Dutch or the hosts but they pushed las Leonas close in their semi-final and have provided stiff opposition for all teams in the competition – always pretty much doing what they have to to win.
It’s tempting to think the English ‘deserve’ to take something home from Rosario, but there are no soft hearts when it comes to sport, and winning will come from the same old values of determination, good tactics and execution under pressure.
England’s game is at 8.30pm UK time, try www.laola1.tv or check the digital TV schedules.
But let’s not forget the main attraction – Argentina vs the Netherlands for the gold is going to be huge. Maartje Paumen and the deadly Dutch corner machine vs the brilliance of Luciana Aymar and 12,000 fans! I can’t wait.
